Somone House
Somone House means “Come and see what the Lord has done”
One of the most difficult realities we confronted as medical missionaries in Zambia was the horror of “dumped babies”. New mothers, many HIV positive living in abject poverty without support, often leave their newborns on the steps of buildings, in trash cans, or even latrines where they give birth. In response, Gilgal Community Church, in partnership with Talmudine Foundation, built and equipped the Somone House for Babies, completed in 2011.
It is a place where babies receive loving care, nourishing food, and medical care for growth and good health. Each baby has also been dedicated to the Lord at Gilgal Community Church where they worship with their caregivers. The goal is for them to be adopted in the community or returned to family members. Once they reach the age of two, the Social Service agreement requires that they move to an orphanage. Some children are placed in a Christian Orphanage, while all others are placed in homes of family members or adopted through Social Welfare of Zambia.
Many families within the nearby churches would adopt the children but cannot afford to support another child. To solve this problem, we have developed a sponsorship program for the loving Christian families fostering or adopting these rescued babies.
Their Stories
Esther
YOU have heard the needs of this precious baby Esther, and through your prayers and support, you have helped her receive brain surgery! She suffered from multi-suture craniosynostosis, which resulted in her small head and developmental delay. The only way to correct her condition and allow her brain to develop fully was through surgery that opened her skull (head) and provided space for the brain to develop properly. Because of generous people like YOU, Esther was able to go to Kenya under the amazing care of neurosurgeon and receive this surgery. Esther is doing well and growing into a strong independent toddler. It’s amazing to see what God is doing in her life and we are always grateful for His continued protection over her. Her communication and response to things and everyone around her has greatly improved and continues to do so. Esther is now clapping, singing, jumping up and down and dancing, which is all evidence of what Our Waymaker, Miracle Working, Promise Keeper, Light in the Darkness God has done in response to your prayers and love for precious Esther. REJOICE!!!
Gift
The Lord’s Word remains true when he says; ‘He makes everything beautiful in His time’ Ecclesiastes 3:11. Gift was reintegrated back with his family, it was such a bitter sweet moment and he is so dearly missed but we thank God for His provision and coming through for Gift. At Somone we believe in children growing up in a home, rather than an institution. It really blessed our hearts to see Gift go back to his family. He was released to his grandmother who was so thankful and overwhelmed by how well Somone Home took care of him, and we couldn’t have done it without YOUR continued help and support.
Wana
The friends at Somone Home had an amazing time celebrating baby Wana’s first birthday. It is so remarkable, seeing how far he has come and the Love of our Lord being poured out in his precious life. We remembered when he first came to us, he was so small barely weighed much but now he is a strong and mighty boy. The amount of grace and favor God has given this cherished boy is just amazing. Your prayers and support are forever greatly appreciated because we know we wouldn’t be able to do what we do without YOUR generous love.
