Well Update - Kamatipa
An update letter from Misheck
Throughout the drilling process, we encountered a few challenges, but we were able to overcome them and complete the borehole within the designated timeframe.
On the first day, we arrived at the site and began setting up the drill rig. After setting up the drill rig, we dug mud holes to allow the drilling process to begin. However, we encountered a challenge when it came to fetching water for the drilling process. The streams near the site were contaminated with used motor vehicle oil, making it difficult to find a suitable source of water. After searching for a while, we were able to find a source of clean water about 4 kilometers away from the site.
On the second day, we started early, fetching water and drilling the three-inch drill bit into the ground. By around 14:00, we had drilled a five-inch hole.
On the third day, we drilled the five- and seven-inch holes and cased the well. We also put up a hand pump and the base. As we worked late into the evening to complete the borehole, we took extra precautions to reduce the risk of the community throwing rocks into the hole.
The drilling in Kamatipa is serving 500 families, totaling 1500 people. Our repaired well in New Kitwe serves a community with a population of 1000 and more.
Overall, we are pleased with the outcome of the borehole drilling process. We were able to complete the project on time and within the agreed budget, despite encountering a few challenges along the way. We hope that the boreholes will serve these communities well and provide a reliable source of clean water.
