Somone House October 2023 Newsletter

Written by Sipho

Greetings

I pray this newsletter finds you all well. I can’t believe we are already in the last quarter of 2023, what a whirl wind year. The month of October was a bit of challenging month for us at Somone home, but we thank God for pulling us through all of it.

The Children

This month we received two new baby boys into our home. Our first baby boy is called Able, he was born at 7 months and stayed in the hospital for another 2 months until he was released into our care. During the 2 months, his mother was not very willing to bond with him, feed him or take care of him. The social services tried to provide any needed help for his mother, but she decided to surrender him to the officials as she personally just didn’t want nothing to do with him. So, once he was seen strong enough to be released, he was released into our care. He has adjusted well with us, although he did go through a bad case of stomach upset but he recovered well and his doing good.

Our second baby boy was called Miracle, he was also born at 7 months. Baby Miracle came from out of town, he was born in a village 4 hours outside of Kitwe. His mother is a young lady who is disabled and according to the documents she lives with her grandmother, who didn’t have the means to care for him. She reached out for assistance to the social welfare within her district, who later reached out to Kitwe district for help, as they had no inefficient means within their district to care for a premature baby. So, baby miracle was transported to Kitwe and put in our care. Unfortunately he only lived with us for 2 days; in the early hours of the second day, the mother duty woke up to feed and check on him as per usual, to her surprise she noticed he was not
moving and his lower body was cold but his upper body very hot. She called out to the other mother on duty, who came and also examine him, she was also puzzled and they decided to rush him to the hospital. Once at the emergency, he was declared dead upon arrival, stating his death was due to cardiopulmonary arrest. This was a shock to all of us, we informed the social services about this sudden event, who were also puzzled but understood and followed to inform the grandmother of his death. We buried baby Miracle on 30th October, his grandmother was present as well as the social workers and us. It was and still is a very sad event, one that still has us puzzled but all we can do is rest in God’s peace knowing his in a better place. May his soul rest in eternal peace.

So, we now currently have 11 children in our facility. They are all doing well, though we also had an outbreak of a cold and cough
that went around, but we thank God all the children pulled through. Everyone is back to themselves playing and laughing, this we
deeply thank God for.

The Stuff

I am sad to also report that we lost one of our staff members in the beginning of October. Our security guard passed on, due to liver complications. His name was Patrick, he had been with us for 4 years. He had worked diligently, making sure our home was always safe and secure. May his soul also rest in eternal peace.

October was a bit of a tough month for Somone Home, but we are so grateful for God’s comfort, peace, strength and protection during this time. It was a challenging month but we thank God for helping us pull through. The children are all doing, our eldest children are back in school and doing well, the stuff has also been able to get back into the rhythms of things and are doing well. Sometimes life does get like this but all we can do is hold unto to God’s word and allow His grace and strength to carry us through. Please continue to keep us in your prayers, and we thank you for your continued support, prayers and love towards the home and the children. We wish you all Gods blessings and grace.

Remain blessed
Sincerely,
Sipho
